OK... so I starting a remodel of our second bath. IT IS HIDEOUS!!... and it is stinky! Yuck! The walls are sage green... not a pretty sage green... more like army drab green. The floor is just stick down tiles (another shade of green that DOES NOT GO (read clashes) with the sage green) that were installed wrong from the get go. They did not butt them up side by side. They left gaps like you would for real tile that you would later grout. To make matters worse most of the glue is not dry... very tacky, but not stuck down tight. You walk on it and sit down on the pot and listen and you can hear it popping back up. To top it all off... the whole bathroom is so stinky!! Anyway, here is what it looks like to begin with:

See, I told you so!! ICKY!! So I made a deal with the landlord, Rick, that if he would take up the old tile I would make it beautiful... SOMEHOW!! LOL! Yesterday he came and put down all new plywood on the floor over the other nasty stuff. (A big thank you to Rick... he really took his time and did an awesom job so that the floors do not squeaky and there is little prep work that will have to be done!! YEAH!!)
Much better all ready.... yes? Next step will be to wood putty any gaps in the plywood where he piece it together and then sand that when it is dry. Most of the gaps are around the toilet and near the tub. So I am going to put a coat or two of Polyurethane over the whole floor just for extra protection.
Ultimately, I will replace the ugly tile look with a new "Brown Bag" floor similar to the ones below:
Love it! And it feels so wonderful under your feet when it is done. Very easy to keep clean. We did Tessie's whole house this way and it worked out fabulously, even with 3 dogs in the house!
Well, that is all for now. I will start the putty process over the weekend (so the Bear can help me...sshhh!! Don't tell him, he'll run!). And I will upload photos on each step. Maybe that you can use this process in your new house, Sissy! I love you! ........................ (TAG: Your it! Your turn to share.... I want to see your gardens!!)
